Groupon tests a new e-business model in the UK
Time:2011-09-14

NetEase news on September 13th news, according to foreign media reports, group purchase website Groupon Inc began to offer discounts on the products sold on the Internet in the UK, pushing the company into direct competition with the Amazon.com Inc. and eBay Inc.
Groupon, based in Chicago, is promoting more than 80% discounts for its British customers. When users buy products, they receive a code that will be able to access the provider's Web site and enjoy online order discounts.
Most of Groupon's revenue comes from their daily group buying transactions with local restaurants, hotels and other businesses, which may increase revenue growth by adding coupons to e-commerce sites.
Channel Advisor CEO Scott Wenger (Scot Wingo), an Internet retail solution provider in the US, said: "by virtue of its ability to send discounts to 115 million email subscribers, Groupon can attract users who are usually in love with Amazon and eBay." "The advantage of Groupon is to be able to reach more than 100 million users a day," he said. "Amazon and eBay can't do it. Just by subscribing to the size of the subscriber group, they can push $500 million to $1 billion in sales."
Groupon's function, called National Deals, has provided users with UK-Bedding mattresses, Whitening Professionals tooth whitening, and Albelli custom albums. In each case, Groupon can complete more than 10 thousand transactions.
Wenger said: "it seems to be really good. I guess Groupon will introduce the service to the United States once the time is ripe."
Groupon spokesman Julie Mossler (Julie Mossler) declined to comment on the matter.
Groupon chief executive officer Andrew - Mason (Andrew Mason) raised the initiative in an internal memorandum in August 25th and said the UK e-commerce business was successful. He wrote in the Memorandum: "we sold a mattress of $2 million in the UK in only one day."
Groupon's main competitor in the US is LivingSocial, headquartered in Washington. LivingSocial is also trying a new group buying mode. LivingSocial plans to promote a group purchase with Whole Foods Market. Users can only buy $20 worth of groceries for $10. LivingSocial spokesman Andrew Weinstein (Andrew Weinstein) said it was the first group buying company to launch a nationwide grocery group purchase.
Groupon is still expanding its services in other ways. The company sells discounted concert tickets by setting up a partnership with Live Nation Entertainment of the US ticketing company and co operating with the online travel website Expedia to promote cheap hotels.
Groupon submitted an application for IPO (initial public offering) earlier this year, and plans to raise $750 million through IPO. But earlier this month, sources said that Groupon had postponed the IPO plan due to stock market turmoil. (compiling / Huo Shan)
